We deeply are saddened by this natural disaster and would rather see the donations going to help those displaced from the disaster. Inspired by the french foreign film of the same name, Project Red Balloon is a not-for-profit organization that changes a child's life through music. Since its humble beginnings in 2006, we have brought music to third world countries through educational scholarships and now have been sponsoring and sustaining music therapy programs in children's hospitals throughout California. We have the honor of working with some of the most amazing Child Life Specialists, music therapists, art therapists and the cutest pediatric patients ever!!
On November 16, 2013, Project Red Balloon is hosting its annual Red Balloon Day; a day where people like YOU go out into their communities and make a difference through music. We have groups going into homeless shelters, senior homes and hospitals sharing their love of music with others. By spreading music, we hope to brighten the lives of hundreds of people who are going through difficult times in their lives; by spreading music, we hope to help them breathe a little easier.
We are also hosting an online fundraiser through CauseVox to help sponsor some of our favorite music-related service projects. Here's what $1500 will mean to us:
- $700 will be donated to UC Davis Children's Hospital in Sacramento, California. These funds will go directly to their music therapy program for the acute and chronically-ill pediatric patients. Beyond scalpels and sutures, music helps in their healing process and makes them whole again. These funds will continue to sustain the ongoing music therapy program.
- $700 will be donated to Donate-A-Song-Program, a beautiful branch of Music is Medicine (MiM). Donate-A-Song invites celebrity artists to write and record an original song for a seriously-ill child. The song will inspire all those who listen to it and will raise awareness and money for the child's disease. These funds will help cover production costs and enable MiM to continue dedicating songs to seriously-ill children across the United States.
-$100 will go to CauseVox processing fees (2-3% + 0.60 per donation). If you decide to donate, consider adding a tip to cover this as well!
